How we verify The sourcing rules every story on this site has to clear. Read
- Tier 1 — primary
AP, Reuters, AFP. Every story needs at least one of these underneath it. - Tier 2 — corroboration only
Straight-news wires (BBC News, NPR, Al Jazeera, DW, Al Arabiya, Arab News) and regional independent press. Usable to confirm a Tier 1 story or add context — never used to originate a claim on its own. - Not used
Cable/network commentary-driven outlets (CNN, NBC/MSNBC, Fox and similar). If a story hasn't reached a wire service, it doesn't run here yet. - Hard rule
Casualty counts, quotes, and attributions need two or more independent sources in agreement before being stated as fact. A still-developing story says so explicitly rather than getting quietly upgraded to settled fact. - What actually runs
Sourcing alone isn't enough to get a story on this site — it also has to matter. That covers things like a leader losing power, a mass-casualty attack, a country severing trade or diplomatic ties, a war's major developments, a disaster striking with real impact, a significant economic shock, or a major election or legal case against a national figure. Global summits (climate summits, G7/G20, UN sessions) and major international sporting events (World Cup, Olympics) also run in their own right, even on an otherwise quiet day. Routine statements, ordinary rulings, and speculative "could happen" pieces still don't make the cut, even when accurately reported.
